About Us

TAMS-AC is the leading provider of a comprehensive range of culturally appropriate primary healthcare services to enhance the health and emotional well-being of the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community of Tamworth and surrounding districts. TAMS-AC is an Aboriginal community-controlled health service on the land of the Gomeroi people, based in Tamworth NSW. TAMS-AC has successfully delivered culturally appropriate primary healthcare services for First Nations People for close to 30 years. In addition to primary healthcare and day to day health services provided by a team of onsite doctors and nurses, TAMS-AC coordinates access to a range of visiting specialist services and community programs.

About the Role

Ngali ngarri-y ngadaa (two people sit down) is a non-clinical support service focused on providing trauma-informed psychosocial support to people in the community. Practical, cultural and emotional supports are delivered in partnership with other TAMS-AC services as required. As a non-clinical service, Ngali ngarri-y ngadaa views clinical care and cultural connection as complementary rather than alternate approaches.

About You

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with participants in a trauma-informed, recovery orientated and strengths-based approach to provide information regarding the program, develop a safety plan if needed, and identify their goals. General administration tasks will also be undertaken, including client notes, data management and record-keeping. The role requires being out in community, listening and observing, and supporting people to achieve their goals.

Multiple positions exist. The roles are for 30 hours per week.

Skills

• Excellent communication skills, particularly with individuals and their families/carers who may be experiencing significant distress
• Good understanding of recovery principles and/or strengths-based principles
• Demonstrated ability to communicate a non-judgemental attitude to client care
• Lived experience of mental health challenges
• Demonstrated understanding of personal, family and social issues associated with suicidal ideation and attempts
• Ability to effectively assess, monitor and respond to risk
• High level of competency using technology

• National Criminal Record check - disclosable outcomes considered
• Open NSW Drivers Licence
